Impossible

My word of the year is IMPOSSIBLE. Ann Voskamp says to do the hard, holy things. We get to embrace the pain of discipline. This means to not choose the path of least resistance, but the path of highest calling. We could stay where we are, so much farther along than we ever imagined we could be. We could call that good enough, and it is indeed a miracle.

But there’s more. You know that path that God’s calling you to that makes your stomach churn, and makes you want to run away screaming? Fear wants to rule our lives. It wants to hold us back from the crazy things that God is drawing us into.

Does the call seem absolutely absurd? Does it involve way too much risk? Is it something that seems impossible in your own strength? If the answer is “yes” to these questions, get on your knees and ask the Almighty when He wants you to start. It’s time. 2019 is the year of the impossible. It’s the year of God-sized dreams billowing up out of our willing hearts.

It’s the time for Esthers to step out in confidence that we were indeed created for such a time as this. It’s a time for Samuels to hear the voice of God and say, “yes, Lord, your servant is listening.” It’s the year of Elijahs to swallow down the lump of insecurity in their throats and say, “go ahead and dump a truck-load of water on those logs. My God could burn up an ocean.” It’s the time for Moseses to stand before the massive body of water before them and lift up their hands for an entire nation to cross over into freedom.

Where is God calling you in the quiet of your spirit? Does it seem completely off the wall? Will people say you’re nuts? Does it make you squirt your milk out of your nose as you laugh at the absurdity of the promise? Go ahead and laugh. Sarah did. She still had a baby at age 100. But don’t shrug it off. It’s time. Let’s be brave. Let’s be intentional. Let’s put audible words to the whispers in our hearts. Let’s step out onto that invisible bridge and see God do what God does best: The impossible.

  1. Oh my goodness Megan!! Your writing is phenomenal (I probably say that repeatedly, but I don’t know any other word?!)!!
I am so motivated by what you wrote today. Thank you; it was just what I needed. It was as if God was saying, “See? This is what I’m talking about!”
Blessings to you and your family in the New Year. Keep writing!!

  2. As we spend the first few days of 2019, contemplate how God has been faithful to you last year in the good and the bad. Be in faith that He will do the same and even more next year!

Start praying nadin for your faith goals for the year and find your 2019 miracle.

Remember, that Faith Goals believe beyond your reality. God can make the impossible possible.

    Happy New Year!

    1. “Faith goals believe beyond your reality.” Love it!

  3. Amen. God help me to help my Mom go where she never wanted to go… dementia is a beast. My Mom is falling hard into the heart of the beast and I know she is here with us so we can walk with her through it. Lord, take this cup from us but Your will be done above all else!

    1. Praying for you, your mom, and your family, Susan. I’m so sorry! May God’s peace and presence accompany you along this path that you reluctantly journey.
