For those who are waiting and longing as Christmas approaches; For those who feel the acute ache of loss or suffering against the backdrop of holiday cheer:
Two years ago, my talented and passionate husband gave me an assignment: Write daily devotionals for my favorite season of the year, Advent.
I was excited for the challenge, but i had no idea what God had in store. In less than two weeks, God breathed words into my spirit that spilled onto the keyboard. Then Jordan skillfully crafted it all into a beautiful Advent study for the suffering and hurting at Christmas.
This devotional is great for individual study or group study and meets us in our mess as we step into the glory of Christmas. It’s for all of us who occupy this in-between space where God is at work, but has not yet made all wrongs right here on this broken planet. It’s for those of us who feel the bittersweet glorious ache that comes with the celebration of the Christ Child.
There’s a reason why so many hymns of Advent are in minor key: they reflect the longing, the tangible ache of hearts not yet made whole, yet being transformed and strengthened in the waiting.
