How Far Will God’s Love Travel?

“Oh joy that seeks me through the pain, I cannot close my heart to thee.

I trace the rainbow through the rain and feel the promise is not in vain,

That morn shall tearless be.”

As we sang George Matheson’s 1882 hymn in practice late one Wednesday evening in September, the tears cascaded down my nose, splashing the microphone. Our band was rehearsing Ascent the Hill’s 2010 ancient-modern remix of George Matheson’s old hymn, Oh Love that Wilt Not Let Me Go. When reflecting on his writing of this hymn, Matheson described the process as entirely inspired, mystical, and lasting a mere five minutes.  He stated that the words flowed forth from his pen as though they came from “a dayspring on high.”

Thank you! I am in awe of the ways that God manifests Himself through music. Every practice and worship time feels like a feast!
